Warm temperatures come to an abrupt end on Sunday. Instead, the high fog now finds its way back – the snow is also coming back.
From Sunday afternoon and on Monday, a weakly active front of an Atlantic low and an Italian low slowly starting to form will again provide unsettled weather, according to the experts at the UBIMET weather center. Temperatures drop somewhat but remain above the seasonal average.
On Sunday, clouds predominate, and tenacious high fog patches persist away from the Alps. The sun can be seen most likely in the foehn northern Alps from the Bregenzerwald to the Schneeberg, along and south of the main ridge of the Alps dense clouds accumulate and bring towards evening from the Rätikon to the Karawanken increasingly rain, locally it rains heavily, above 1,200 m falls snow.
Monday will start with widespread wet weather. Especially in the northern Alps and in the south, it rains heavily. It dries up from the northwest before precipitation falls again in Vorarlberg in the afternoon. In the west, the snow line will first be at 900 meters and later drop to 800 meters. In the south, on the other hand, snow will fall to over 1300 m in the early morning, and towards evening the snow line will drop to around 1000 m. In the beginning, a foehn southerly wind will blow on the northern side of the Alps; during the day, the wind will change to westerly, then brisk winds must be expected in the Danube region.
Tuesday will start with dense clouds on the northern side of the Alps and in the east. Snow and rain showers will accumulate along the north side of the Alps until noon. Later, isolated showers will only move from the Innviertel to Upper Styria. The snow line will remain at about 500-600 m throughout the day. During the day, there will be brief sunny spells, with the most sunshine hours in the south. Only in the evening will it start to rain again in Vorarlberg. A strong northwesterly wind will blow in Upper and Lower Austria and Burgenland. In Upper Carinthia and Styria, the Föhn will freshen up.
